S-Designation Committee

The S-designation is a semi-autonomous subcommittee of the Leeward CC Curriculum Committee. They review proposals for new S-designation courses, review and approve all S-designation courses for renewal, and report courses approved for S-designation to the Leeward CC Faculty Senate (for final approval) through the Curriculum Committee Chair.

Welcome, Curriculum Committee members!

Please see the UH Leeward CC Faculty Senate Charter and Bylaws to better understand the Curriculum Committee’s function within the curriculum approval process.

Submission Deadline

The 2025-2026 deadline for curriculum proposal submissions approved by the Division Chairs
is Friday, October 10, 2025. Division review and voting of proposals must be conducted prior
to division chair approval (with the exception of experimental course proposals). Therefore, division chairs may set a prior deadline to allow time for review and voting. If no deadline is set
by the division chair, it is recommended to submit individual proposals by Friday, October 3, 2025.

The Start Term for non-experimental course proposals and Effective Term for program proposals are Fall 2026. Proposals received after the October 10, 2025 deadline will be effective Fall 2027.

The Curriculum Committee encourages faculty to submit proposals as early as possible to facilitate the review process.

    2025-2026 Meeting Schedule

    Curriculum Committee meetings will be conducted via Zoom. Proposers are invited and strongly encouraged to attend the meeting on the review day of their proposals. Their participation, though not required, can often facilitate the approval process.

    Other important dates:

    • January 29, 2026 – Last Curriculum Committee meeting to approve course and program proposals prior to the Faculty Senate meeting.
    • February 3, 2026 – Last Faculty Senate meeting to approve program and course proposals prior to the STAR deadline.
    • February 13, 2026 – STAR deadline: All new academic programs and all changes to existing programs, including courses, must be fully approved by in order to be effective for the following fall semester.
