DE Course R&R: (Re)Design and Review
In the DE Course R&R: (Re)Design and Review program, you will be guided through the Distance Education (DE) course design process by our expert Instructional Designers. After the program, you will have a high-quality DE course that you can be 100% confident is “Ready for Delivery”—meaning, a course that aligns with our Leeward CC DE Guidelines and has passed a “Course Review” conducted by your peers.
We invite you to join our next DE Course R&R Program summer cohort!
All you need to know about DE Course R&R
Who?
This program is open to everyone teaching an online course through Leeward CC. You may have designed your DE course years ago, and by now, it could use a redesign to align more closely with our Leeward CC DE Guidelines. Or, you may have quickly transitioned a Face-to-Face course online due to the pandemic and never really got the chance to intentionally design your online course from the ground up. Or, you may be a brand-new DE instructor looking for a program that will support you in creating a high-quality DE course.
What?
“DE Course R&R: (Re)design and Review” program consists of three phases.
- Skills and Concepts: A self-paced module of 5 units to build your foundation in best practices of online teaching and learning.
- Course Development: A six-week (Summer) workshop where you will develop your DE course alongside your cohort and expert Instructional Designers based on the Leeward CC DE Guidelines.
- Course Review: A self-assessment and peer review process of your DE course utilizing the DE Guidelines so you can be confident that your course is “Ready for Delivery (RFD).”
- Completion: Once your DE course has met the DE Guidelines, it is “Ready for Delivery (RFD).” Or make improvements based on the feedback and recommendations and get additional support, if needed.
The DE Course R&R Course Development Workshop consists of six weeks during the summer devoted to course development alongside your cohort and our EMC Instructional Designers. It is an online workshop with weekly synchronous sessions and valuable 1-1 consultations with our Instructional Designers. Participants can expect to commit 5-10 hours per week. Read more about participant expectations.
Please watch a brief video that showcases one of our former participant’s experiences in the program!
When?
The entire program is online with the majority being self-paced and asynchronous. New schedule coming soon.
Why?
Leeward has long been a leader in DE. Throughout the years, we have consistently reached students where they were at and led them to student success with our DE course offerings. But now is the time to up our game.
The pandemic has revealed that DE will continue to play an increasingly important role in our students’ success as well as student success across the nation. In addition, our accrediting body as well as the federal government have special policies and regulations governing DE. More consistency and higher-quality is going to be expected of DE courses as time goes on. Leeward needs to continue to be a leader in DE by focusing on more consistency and higher-quality. This will help us serve our students as best we can.
